WHOO HOO!!

this is sisters new favorite thing to say. Everything is super exciting these days :) She did get her straws back (after having a 2 week break because of the tonsils) and that was super exciting! She laughed until she cried. SO sweet. Little man is still doing good with the chart, but yesterday was a hard day. His gecko died. Not sure if thats what brought it on but we made it and thankfully got to start over this morning. Speck is good too. His ear still isn't bothering him, whoo hoo, so we are just waiting til our appointment to see what comes next. Hubby had a dr appt this morning. Thinking he might have an abdominal hernia. Wonder what that could be from?! He has to go see a surgeon to get a second opinion. Don't even want to think along those lines. He's leaving this afternoon for deer camp. Mom and I are taking the kids to the fair. Yuck. at least its only for a few hours. Tomorrow I promised Petco. And Sunday the airshow. Busy weekend, but planning to enjoy every minute with the kiddos. I wish I could find it in me to decorate for fall. I love all the stuff thats out and looking at everyone elses, but I detest setting it out and putting it away. Not to mention cleaning around it. So I guess I will just have to admire from a distance.

so far...

Little man is doing SOOO good with the behavior chart. It is something he really looks forward to and gets upset when he has to change a color. He is the one who actually has to move the smiley face, and he HATES that. He gets to punch his card every night and can't wait to do it. I think I have more patience with him too. I want so badly for him to succeed with this. His daddy says I'm not hard enough but its working at the moment. And any improvement is a good one.
Sis is almost back to 100%. I can't believe how well she has done. She can go back to her favorite sippy cups on Friday. We are all counting the days!
Speck is good too. He's so excited about hunting season. He will get to go, at least through most of it. His appointment at ACH is November 28 so I guess we will see.
Hubby has managed to give himself what I am pretty sure is an abdominal hernia. He goes to the Dr. Friday morning. He wasn't too concerned until I scared him bad enough and mentioned the possibility of him missing hunting season :) With the 2 kiddos having surgery so close together, I said many times "It happens in 3's" I just thought it would be little man. It may be the big one...and OH MAN what fun that will be.

UGH!

Thursday Speck blew his nose & screamed "mom, I felt air come out my ear!" I called the school nurse and had her look...all was well. Friday we had an appoinment for little man because of his headaches (which turned out to be a sinus infection) anyway, while we were there I had the Dr. look. Well, sometime in the 24 hours or so since the nurse looked, it had gone ahead and ruptured. So I call ACH to get an appointment. He is scheduled Dec. 22 for another check. They didn't want to see him til then. My issues with that are that I want him to be seen ASAP to prevent any complications. & if he has to have surgery again it needs to be done before Jan. 1 because of insurance. I have been on the phone with them 4 times today already. Basically I am just sitting and waiting for them to call me with an appointment that I have to take regardless of date/time because the dr is booked until February. AND I found out my work schedule is not at all condusive to Sisters new school schedule. I am not a happy camper today. Oreos, however, are making it a little easier & it could always be worse, I'm just frustrated at the little things!

one proud momma

So both boys got glowing reports from their teachers and both had straight A's. Speck, I would expect nothing less. And would be shocked otherwise. Little Man, I wasn't surprised at the grades but sadly a little dumbfounded at her description of him. I think I'm getting the wrong kid after school everyday!

3's a charm

So Speck & Sis have had a turn at the Dr...why not Little Man too?! He had his well child check up last week and they diagnosed him with scoliosis. Its a mild case and they didn't seem too worried but we still have to go see an orthopaedic next week. He has complained of a headache everyday for the last week too. We go tomorrow for that. AND, he's having a hard time staying out of trouble at home. I thought it was getting better but I'm not so sure. Dr. said he thinks it may be ODD or oppositional defiance. GREAT! He's not in trouble at school, yet. At least not that I am aware of. We go back for the testing on that in a month. In the meantime I have initiated a behavior chart at home. It has several areas of concern that he can get a green, yellow or red card. For so many green cards he gets a "punch" in his reward card and when its full he gets a treat of some sort. He seems really excited about it and so far it is working. Lots of people say he & sis are two peas in a pod. I'm thinking they are right on target. The boys "personalilty" really started to show when they turned 3. The closer she gets the more it shines :) Little man won't be the only one with a behavior chart around here for long.

in pictures

Our little hog fan just couldn't cheer anymore so Nanaw had to rescue her.

And that was probably a good thing, considering he had a little too much fun watching the game with a few friends at his last minute surprise party. (showing off a gift from some who couldn't make it)

We sort of celebrated all week. After the party, he got presents two different days and we got a sitter and went out to eat one night.

morning of surgery...she just couldn't get up (S.W. notice her sleeping buddy?!)

waiting for everyone to get finished with her

after the "goofy juice"

settled in her room

waking up to watch "Despicable Me" and eat ice cream

getting to go home

had to make sure Belle was safe too

In the grand scheme of it all, her tonsils and Speck's ear are very minor. ACH is amazing and sad at the same time. I am so very thankful for three rotten, but healthy kiddos!

home again, home again

Sisters surgery went well. She was in and out in about 45 minutes. We did have to spend the night. I was anticipating a long day Friday but she did great. Some discomfort but overall it couldn't have been better. We were on the road home by 10 am Sat. morning. She slept almost all the way but woke up hungry about 30 min out. So we stopped at KFC and got mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. She ate all of it! She was really ticked that we wouldn't let her have a hamburger ;) After we got home I thought she would crash again after the pain meds (since thats what she did at the hospital) Was I ever WRONG! She had a reaction and started bouncing off the walls like a ping pong ball. Bad enough that I called the Dr. She said that is common in kids that age with narcotics. Great. She has to have it, but she literally jumps on the furniture and runs through the house screaming. Not condusive to keeping her "as still as possible" to heal. I cut the dose in 1/2 and she did better the next time. This could be interesting! I am just so very thankful she is ok and doing well.

sort of a surprise

Well, he was surprised. Kind of. He thought we were having a few friends over to cookout and watch the game Saturday night so he worked all day in the kitchen getting stuff ready. I sort of felt bad about it! About 3:30 I told him I needed to go wash my car and pick up Speck from his Nanaw's house. He called about 4 wanting to know why I wasn't home yet and what I was up to. Then a friend showed up and kidnapped him. First they had to stop because his buddy left his iron on ;) Then to get gas. He was freaking out about having to be home in time to get it all ready. Finally he was told I was planning something at the house for him so he had to stay gone for an hour or so. They were going to stop and watch the game and come back. When they got there he headed for a table but the "kidnapper" said he thought he saw somebody he knew in the party room so they headed in & ...surprise! Thanks to those who could make it on such short notice and who stopped by later. He had a great time!

around here...

Speck is recovering well from his ear surgery. He had a follow up appt at ACH yesterday and in 2 more weeks he can "return to normal activity". He was a tad concerned about hunting since doc had said that was a no-no until he said so. He will still have to wear protective ear muffs but bottom line is he can still go.

Little man woke me up Tues morning around 3 with a headache, sore throat and fever of 103. It lasted about 36 hours.

He was nice enough to share with Sis. But she waited til we got to LR :) it was about midnight when hers hit. And of course my MIL had nothing condusive to taking care of a sick 2 year old. So we loaded up and headed in search of a Walgreens. Fun stuff that time of night in a big city I'm not too familiar with.

She got to tag along to the ACH appt. too. For a consult on her overly large tonsils. That cause her to SNORE and have sleep apnea that is getting worse. His assessment was what I was expecting, they have to come out. But I wasn't expecting it to be next Friday! WOW. System overload. I need some time to process general anesthesia and surgery for her. & it has to be inpatient because of her age. It will all be fine, but this is when being a nurse and a mother should not be allowed. My mind runs crazy.

Not to mention the dr bills we will be getting. 2 surgeries in 3 weeks. YIPPEE.

And next Friday is hubby's 35th birthday. I had a small surprise get together planned. After a mad dash to re arrange, a few friends can still make it. Now to get him there. He is trying to mess it all up! At least if it doesn't work out as planned I still have his gift. It is definately a surprise. And I can't wait to see the look on his face :)
