Our Friday

Early this summer his right eardrum ruptured. We still have no idea how. The hole was so big you could see it with a flashlight and it wouldn't heal on its own. So Friday morning we left the house about 4 am and headed for ACH. He had to check in at 7:30 and surgery was scheduled for 9:30.

He wasn't too upset about the surgery part, but he did not like the gown! he hid under the covers and would not let me take his picture.

The surgery lasted 2 1/2 hours. I started getting really anxious. The dr had said 1 1/2 hours max. I think the receptionist got tired of me asking her to call the OR and check on him. Its so hard to be a patient & not a nurse ;) When the dr. came out to talk to us he said the drum was so far gone there was nothing left to attach the graft to so he had to make a new hole in the front of his ear and tuck the graft inside. He had a really hard time waking up. We were in recovery for probably 3-4 hours.

even when we were able to get him dressed and out of bed he kept falling asleep in the wheelchair. Poor guy, he doesn't remember, but I had to take him to the bathroom. He would be SOOOO embarassed! He slept most of the way home. And his night was ok. He was up about every 2 hours and the hydrocodone made him sick. This morning we took the bandage off and cleaned it up. There was quite a bit of blood and he didn't like that too much. He says the pain isn't that bad but he is dizzy and can't hear anything. He can't wash his hair until Monday so he didn't appreciate it when I said he could still take a bath. Why not be stinky all the way around?!

Little brother and sister have been super sweet and concerned. Or at least they were last night. Today they are inching their way back to their little selves!
